[00:08.01]New York Senate Race Speech
[00:13.36]You know, you know,
[00:17.19]we started this great effort on a sunny July morning
[00:20.80]in Pinders Corner on Pat
[00:22.66]and Liz Moynihan's beautiful farm and 62 counties,
[00:27.47]16 months,3 debates,2 opponents,and 6 black pantsuits later,
[00:33.60]because of you,
[00:34.80]here we are.
[00:40.05]You came out and said that issues and ideals matter.
[00:40.00]Jobs matter, downstate and upstate.
[00:43.39]Health care matters,
[00:45.14]education matters,
[00:46.78]the environment matters,
[00:48.42]social security matters,
[00:50.28]a woman's right to choose matters.
[00:53.01]It all matters and I just want to say
[00:55.75]from the bottom of my heart,
[00:57.83]thank you, New York!
[00:59.65]Thank you for opening up your minds and your hearts,
[01:03.59]for seeing the possibility of what we could do together
[01:07.15]for our children and for our future here
[01:10.00]in this state and in our nation.
[01:12.30]I am profoundly grateful to all of you for giving me
[01:16.02]the chance to serve you.
[01:17.45]I promise you tonight that I will reach across party lines
[01:21.93]to bring progress for all of New York's families.
[01:25.21]Today we voted as democrats and republicans.
[01:28.71]Tomorrow we begin again as New Yorkers.
[01:32.31]And how fortunate we are indeed
[01:34.99]to live in the most diverse, dynamic
[01:37.72]and beautiful state in the entire union.
[01:40.67]You know, from the south Bronx to the southern tier,
[01:45.16]from Broklyn to Buffalo,
[01:47.13]from Montauk to Massena,
[01:49.64]from the world's tallest skyscrapers
[01:51.96]to breathtaking mountain ranges,
[01:54.26]I've met people whose faces and stories
[01:57.15]I will never forget.
[01:59.00]Thousands of new Yorkers from all 62 counties
[02:02.88]welcomed me into your school,
[02:04.74]your local diners,
[02:06.38]your factory floors,
[02:08.13]your living rooms and front porches.
[02:10.32]You taught me,
[02:11.74]you tested me and you shared with me
[02:14.51]your challenges and concerns—
[02:16.70]about overcrowded or crumbling schools,
[02:19.65]about the struggle to care for growing children
[02:22.49]and aging parents,
[02:24.24]about the continuing challenge of providing
[02:26.77]equal opportunity for all
[02:28.63]and about children moving away from their home towns
[02:32.13]because good jobs are so hard to find in upstate New York.
[02:36.83]Now I've worked on issues like these for a long time,
[02:40.77]some of them for 30 years,
[02:43.18]and I am determined to make a difference for all of you.
[02:47.11]You see, I believe our nation owes every responsible citizen
[02:52.80]and every responsible family the tools that they need
[02:56.63]to make the most of their own lives.
[02:58.92]That's the basic bargain.
[03:00.78]I'll do my best to honor in the United States Senate.
[03:04.61]And to those of you who did not support me,
[03:07.89]I want you to know that I will work
[03:10.50]in the Senate for you and for all New Yorkers.
[03:14.01]And to those of you who worked so hard and never lost faith
[03:18.27]even in the toughest times,
[03:20.13]I offer you my undying-gratitude.
